Painted window seat with two drawers built into a three-sided bay

The job

The bay walls were out of square by nearly half an inch. I built the carcass in the shop in three parts, then scribed each face frame on site so there are no gaps to fill. The drawers run on full-extension slides rated for 100 lb, because they’ll be full of toys.

Materials

  • Paint-grade maple face frames

  • 3/4 in birch plywood carcass

  • Full-extension soft-close slides

  • Sprayed semi-gloss finish

Tools that mattered

  • Track saw

  • Scribing compass

  • Pocket-hole jig for face frames

Details

Scribed face frame meeting an uneven plaster wall
Full-extension slide inside an open drawer
Lift-up lid on the window seat with a piano hinge

The window seat fits the bay like it grew there.
